As you may recall, back in September I posted about how I was trying to buy a house. It’s been quite the journey since then. I’ve seen the insides of what feels like half of all of the homes in Portland. Three accepted offers, three inspections, three appraisals. Two deals fell through. (And one dragged on for three months before I finally gave up.)
But last week? I got the keys to my new house! Calla peed and pooped in the backyard on Wednesday — that makes it official. Here’s me in my new kitchen the night I got the keys:
Martin priming the icky living room color.
Calla gallivanted in the wet and muddy backyard, and when she came back inside, she decided to “dry” herself off by wiping her face on the wall. Problem was, the fresh coat of primer hadn’t exactly dried yet.
Calla and River survey the primed walls.
First coat is on!
More photos to come. We’ve finished the living room (except for the trim) and the spare bedroom. Here’s a preview of the rest of the walls:
- Master bedroom: red
- Spare bedroom: sea foam green
- Kitchen: Gray and turquoise

Yee haw! Whaa hoo!! Woot!!! Congratulations!!!! TWO bedrooms??!!?? Wow! (I mean, I know your apartment had two bedrooms; I’m looking at this from a New York City perspective). Are you still in the same neighborhood? We your readers eagerly await more blogs and info.
Congratulations, Laura and Calla!

So somebody lived in a house with dark brown walls? Feh.

Thanks, Malahat! I’m further north than I was before, but not too far from my old hood. The walls in the living room were a dark maroon/purple/brown ickiness. Simply horrible. The rest of the house is a pale gray/blue which is just dreary. The green we’ve painted the living room may be a bit much, still getting used to it. The spare bedroom is heavenly though.

Congratulations –I love the green color-and I love the contrast of your picture with your kitchen and the daily news picture of Elain and her kitchen. I think you should post it in your blog!! Is that a black lab that I see? a scooby look alike?

oh funny – i didn’t even think about that picture of her in the Daily News but you are so right! I tried to find that picture online so I could finally photoshop your photo but I couldn’t find it. we need a hard copy of it!! That is a black lab-greyhound mix named River. She’s a lot thinner than Scooby – more of a greyhound body than a lab. But she does look a lot like him!
