My Dog is Chelsea

Where procrastination comes to flourish

Leaky’s update

July 22nd, 2009 · 5 Comments

Calla seems to be responding to the new medication, which is to say that I have not rolled over in the middle of the night to discover a puddle of dog urine on my bed. Whether or not her incontinence would’ve gone away without the help of a drug banned for use in humans remains to be seen. She’ll be testing it for another 2 weeks and then we’ll find out if the floodgates open without it.

In addition to her regular nicknames (Pancake, Pumpkin Pie, Do Rag, Calla Dooser), she is now known as “Leaky.”

Glad it’s working. Even though I feel uneasy giving it, it’s better (for the moment) than seeing the ashamed look on her face when she gets up and realizes she’s soiled her “place.” Never have I felt more empathetic toward my dog than those times.

I think I’ll decrease Dora’s dose by .25 mL and see how it goes. Dora also goes by Dora-bear, Sweet Pea, Munchkin, Goofball, and occasionally, Dumbass. :)

So it sounds like this drug is a sort of re-training program for her kegel muscles. Good luck!

My cats go by Boy-Boy, Kitty-Girl, Boyfriend, Girlfriend, Fat Kitty, Kittyboo, and Useless Cat. You’d never know they have actual, given names.

Hey, remember when I called you Pumpkin, and Pumpkin Pie?
You could also address Calla as Waterworks, Niagara Falls! (“Slowly I turn, step by step, inch by inch…”), Beside a waterfall, I’m calling you-hoo-hoo-hoo, or Anchors Away.
I’m glad the meds seem to be working. I’d still put something protective under her, if you insist on letting her sleep on the bed.

Oops. I think it’s spelled Anchors AWEIGH, actually.

Good to hear it is working and I hope it stays that way!
