Update: Calla goes to the vet

July 16th, 2009 · 7 Comments

(Third post this week!)

Quick update: The vet ruled out the possibility of a UTI and instead determined that Calla has incontinence. GREAT! So, now my door-eating dog has to take pills every day to keep her pee from cascading out onto my bed. And my couch. And the floor. And basically anywhere she falls asleep.

I’m currently looking into naturopathic ways to deal with this issue. The meds are pricey!

Honestly. If it’s not one thing, it’s another.

Bogus. Poor Calla. (And poor you…and your pocketbook.) Keep us updated on the natural methods you find! I’d love to switch over, too.

I’ll let you know! Check out that link I posted–another reader sent it to me. Her dog was having the same problems and she’s been treating it with soy supplements–no meds at all!

ya, it looks cool. I’m on mat leave starting next month so I will try that. I will be able to monitor Dora’s progress throughout the day. That would save us a nice wad o’ cash. $$$

Oh man that sucks for you both. I remember what doggie vet bills were like. Have not been incontinent but it can’t feel wonderful.

I hope the alternatives work and save you money too.

Two words for you, mydog: Doggie Diapers.

Except, I don’t know if there is such a thing. I just made it up. But still, good idea, right?

PS - After thinking about your situation, I have halved my dog’s dosage of the meds she’s on and it has so far been successful. That will lower the impact on her body and my wallet, too, I hope. I will start to incorporate soy, too, though.

I was going to ask you for the same info about the alternative, and then laughed about soy, since being with Dan (who is soy-allergic), I think I have developed a sympathy soy allergy. I wonder if Hanu has too? Maybe we’ll try it out. Let me know if it works for you!
