My Dog is Chelsea

Where procrastination comes to flourish

And now we’ll return to our semi-regularly scheduled programming

May 22nd, 2009 · 5 Comments

I know, I know. It’s been nearly a month since my last confession blog post. In the last week, I’ve received a nagging email and a nagging Facebook wall post from two of my most dedicated readers alerting me to this sin.

But, you see, the sun has started to come out. It’s that time of year when us Northwesterners remember what a fantastic place we live in, and we celebrate it profusely, namely by not EVER going inside when we don’t have to be. For instance, last weekend I rejoiced the end of the rainy season by going camping along the glacial runoff of the Little North Santiam River (pictures and a movie of Calla chasing butterflies to come, with any luck). This weekend? Hikes and barbecues and frisbee and gardening.

Note that none of these activities involve the computer. That’s because my job requires that I sit and stare at a computer for 8-hour stretches. Astigmatism and carpal tunnel are side effects of my work. So when I get home and it’s not raining? I don’t sit in front of the computer.

(Truthfully, I’m simply making excuses for having absolutely nothing to say.)

However, should you need reading material in my absence, rest assured that MDIC’s online presence extends beyond the reaches of this little website. You can also find me:

And, should that list prove to not exhaust your patience with my opinionated self, there’s always my Twitter feed.

In the next edition of MDIC’s semi-regularly published blog, I’ll tell you about my star-studded week, which includes an encounter with both Indiana Jones and Encino Man.

Until then, I’ll be working on my tan.

Yours,
My Dog is Chelsea

So here’s the thing I don’t get about Twitter: I can look at your feed, but I can’t comment back. What fun is that?* It’s uninteractive! Isn’t that kind of a step backward?

*Naturally, there’s nothing better than reading ~MyDogIsChelsea’s~ thoughts. But I mean, with other people?

Sorry about the nagging email. I knew you had some good reasons for not blogging! Hey, for your next birthday, why don’t you ask your mom for a Blackberry or one of those phones with Internet access? Then you could post blogs even while you’re out hiking and/or tanning! Ha, ha! - just kidding.

Just catching up to blogs this morning (while procrastinating some extreme gardening) and will go with unified commenting on your other fine blog entries:

    1) Guess we shouldn’t be surprised. Corporate turpitude knows no boundaries, whether it’s the Wal-Mart bogus blogging enthusiasts or Sony inventing fake reviewer David Manning to rave about its crappy movies. Any good movement will be appropriated by those seeking the trailing edge/posers/low-hanging fruit.

    2) This struck me as an incredibly dumb idea. Collective knowledge is a good thing when there is some expertise involved (that’s why I don’t mind crowd-sourcing questions) but anything that just encourages further hypster marketing encroaching on Twitter just cheapens the whole experience.

    3) On a related note, I refuse to order a chicken salad or its ilk as a main course. Give me something more meaty (sorry).

    4) For some reason, the smell of a tater tot takes me back to when these were our favorite side dishes, made dutifully by our mother, grease and all. I so miss Hostess Pudding Pies (a staple of my college days from the vending machines because it had the most calories for the price), which I can’t find here, that a friend of mine generously sent (at great expense) some she found in Boston. Just thinking about the Golden Chicken at Phnom Phen in Kingston makes my mouth water. Food and memories have a strong link, and often with times of joy.

Oh, wait a minute now, you’re saying you don’t feel like blogging when the sun’s out? My family in southwestern B.C. (also known as the Pacific Northwest because of all that American TV influence) regularly mentions rainy days. So if it’s raining on southern Vancouver Island, eventually it’s going to rain down in Oregon. Are you telling me it hasn’t rained since May 22nd?
    So blog already.
