Happy New Year!
I got the flu (or some vomit-inducing variant thereof) on New Year’s Eve. That was awesome. It’s now, what? Four days later? And I still don’t feel 100%.
I also aged about 12 years trying to get home for the holidays. Two cancelled flights, one airplane mechanical issue and four days later, I finally made it. It was worth it, as always, but I HATE FLYING. And that’s all I’ll say about that.
Cleaning up the disaster zone that I call “my bedroom” yesterday, I happened across a roll of film I took the day Chelsea died.
(Yes: it’s true. I still own a film camera. Actually, two very old, nothing-automatic-about-them Nikkormats that belonged to my father. But! You may happy to learn that I got a new didge for Christmas.)
Anyway: I don’t think I really ever looked at these photos when I picked them up—it hurt too much—and so it surprised me to discover inside the envelope a CD with digital versions of the entire roll! Here is my little darling on her last day, almost two years ago:

After we left the park, she ate a juicy rare hamburger for dinner.
It is sort of absurd how quickly time flies.
I hope you all had wonderful holidays.
Signed,
MDIC

Awwww … so wonderful to see The Stink, as we affectionately call her, again. Lovely pics. Sort of puts all the other holiday inconveniences into a kind of perspective.

I got myself a little teary-eyed looking at those pictures of the old lady (I still think of her as a brat, though).
I’m not trying to rub it in or anything, but my trip to and from the West Coast was trouble-free (in terms of weather, anyway. The one departure delay came from a human). Sorry you had so much trouble.

Oh, I heard all about your horrible flights on FB. You had the worst problems. I’m surprised you ever made it. My son got in the same day you left–and there were 500 flights cancelled that day. Think you guys were lucky?
As for the flu, just stay in and stay warm. I’ve got a sinus infection, so we can be miserable together.
Also, thanks for the comments about my Blago rant. I’m glad it put the story in perspective for you. I’m so sick and tired of newscasters changing the story to suit their whims. I think the kicker was an op-ed in the NYT today about how the Senate should seat Burris. I feel like writing that guy and saying, “Uh, sir, could you kindly BUTT OUT?!!”
I think I’ve expended my anger on the issue. If we’ve lost Obama, we might as well throw in the towel. At least it’s a sure thing that the gov will be impeached.
