Where procrastination comes to flourish

Saturday, 8:30 am

November 29th, 2008 · 2 Comments

A knock at the door sent Calla flying into a fit of howling rage. It wasn’t yet 9 o’clock on a Saturday morning, and we had a visitor.

It turned out to be FedEx. Why on this once-green Earth does FedEx deliver packages at 8:30 am on a Saturday? Unless it’s a kidney in a cooler, I don’t see much of a reason to bother me at that hour. And even then, they’d be bothering the wrong person.

I couldn’t stay mad for long, though, because inside the package was not a kidney but MY NEW KEYBOARD, which is almost better news for you blog readers anxiously awaiting my next post (ahem, Carole) than it is for me, because it means one and only thing: I will be posting more often.

You see, of late, one of the many barriers to blogging has been the fact that my old keyboard had become so sticky and difficult to type with that I felt like I needed 5-pound weights on each finger in order to press down each key. It had been this way, ironically, ever since I took it apart to clean it—and it was getting progressively worse. And while I suppose my fingers could use the workout, it was becoming rather frustrating to type.

My new keyboard is a beauty. The keys float fluidly under my fingertips. Effortlessly, I can type with no resistence from the letters below. It is flat, sleek and most excellent. It is inspiring me to type, type away! Now I just need to figure out how to make my aging iMac faster, the DSL not move at the speed of dial-up and my mouse not stick to the pad.

(Haven’t yet figured out how to make an emdash on this new keyboard—I had to input the html code for emdash, which is a pain in the arse—hopefully there is a better solution. Any Mac users out there know the secret to emdash glory?)

Anyway. This is the most ridiculously mundane post I’ve written in a while. If your hankering for something a little more substantive, you can read my Thanksgiving-inspired diatribe about the food industry over at my work blog. (And leave comments!!)

Hope you all had a great T-day feast. I know I did.

Signed,
Mydogischelsea

Well. you just made my Saturday! Thank you! So a new keyboard worked where e-mails and a SendOutCard wouldn’t. Sounds like the next purchase is a new mouse.
I had an excellent T-day feast, but now I feel guilty about that one small piece of turkey I consumed.

I get my emdash from option+shift+-[dash]. Though I’ve all but forgotten how any keyboard other than a Mac notebook works. And my home keyboard is missing its T (ironic, no?), so I just tap the electronic thingamajig where the T used to be.

In any event, a new keyboard is good news for you and for us.
