My Dog is Chelsea

Where procrastination comes to flourish

And I care because???

April 20th, 2008 · 8 Comments

The Pope led Mass at Yankee Stadium. And before that, at the Nationals’ stadium. And then he ate dinner. And then he said a prayer. And then he gave a speech. And then he breathed. And then he blinked.

I’m sorry, is there really not enough newsworthy items to report on these days? It’s been Pope Mania all week. Between a gargantuan mess of a war, soaring food prices, melting ice caps, etc., you’d really think the media would have something to tell me other than the Pope woke up this morning on US soil and ate wafers in the Bronx.

Just sayin’.

I concur. It’s another one of those items that makes me wonder what heinous crap is really going down that isn’t being covered. There have been many lately.

I’m going to respectfully (!) disagree. With the reconcilation work between priests and their victims, the Euro-cian political tensions, and the fact that there are more Catholics than any other denomination or faith group in the US, I feel like Benny is pretty newsworthy.

And that’s not to say that war/food prices/ice caps aren’t huge. I’d just say that they are all newsworthy.

You’re just jealous because you didn’t get any wafers when you went to the Bronx.

Still, it wasn’t even the most overhyped story involving NY baseball stadia in the past week or so. That would be that redonculous bit about the construction worker/Boston spy burying the Red Sox jersey under the new construction and the costly excavation to foil the alleged curse.

And as the rest of the world had to weather this barrage of coverage for a silly non-event, does anyone wonder why we’re sick of all this Yankee-Red Sox rivalry hype? Play ball.

See, that’s what you get for following the news.

I care because it screwed up traffic so popetastically that I am still furious. But you, friend, have no reason to care. They were reporting it like it was STORMWATCH 2008. Silly.

Heathen! You might recall that the beginning of his Pontificate was my entry into the blogosphere, so I have a special connection with old Bennie. Oh, yeah, and we’re both of Teutonic descent. That too.

BTW, the twins (Olivia and Emma) arrived on Saturday afternoon!

I like wafers. But not those wafers–they lack flavor and have a similar texture to packaging peanuts. And styrofoam just makes me think of the pope. Because he lacks flavor and doesn’t appear to do much more than add fluff. I don’t even think he keeps things from breaking…Maybe wafers taste better in hell when you eat them with the media.

Here, here to your post :)
