Thursdays have become my only weeknight which are regularly free. I like Thursdays.
I was thinking back to my old god-awful job the other day, and recalled this moment:
Boss: Hi, Laurie [sic]! Welcome back! We missed you last week.
Laura: What?
Boss: Weren’t you on vacation last week?
Laura: Oh. No, that was last month.
Oh, federal government! Glad I don’t work for you anymore.
Anyway, I’m drinking a beer to my free Thursday evening, enjoying the fantastic selection I have here in Oregon. That’s another thing I love about Portland: the beer in this part of the country, hands down, cannot be beat. I will not argue on this subject. If you think otherwise—you are just wrong. I’ve become one of those ridiculous beer snobs to the point that when I am in Oregon, I refuse to drink a beer that was brewed anywhere else. And when I am not in Oregon, I just wish I was.
Cheers!
EDIT!!!! This email just arrived in the mailbag:
Internal Revenue Service
United States Department of the Treasury
After the last annual calculations of your fiscal activity we have
determined that you are eligible to receive a tax refund of $480.23.
Please submit the tax refund request and allow us 3-9 days in order to
process it.
A refund can be delayed for a variety of reasons.
For example submitting invalid records or applying after the deadline.
To access your tax refund, please click here [ed. note: I've disabled the link for obvious reasons]
Best Regards,
Tax Refund Deparment [sic]
Internal Revenue Service
How incredibly WONDERFUL! The IRS is so thoughtful to email me to make sure I fill out paperwork for my refund! Which for some reason doesn’t come automatically! But it only takes 3-9 days to process! WOW! Identity theft is AWESOME!
OK, kiddos. Drink up.

Does the state of Oregon need writers for their visitors’ bureau? It might be an extra source of income. You are an excellent advert for it for those that drink beer. And I hear many people do.
Cheers and enjoy!

Regarding the edit: I will have to keep on the lookout for those. The last time it was the state wanting to clear up things. Of course only if I gave them all my information they should already have.
and ryc: That’s noble lady!

After the last calculations of your fiscal activity, we have determined that you should buy us a beer.
Thursday night is the awesomest. Mrs.5000 & I call it the Front Porch of the Weekend. The Weekend actually starts at 5 p.m. Thursday. Granted, you do have to go and sit at your desk or whatever on Friday, but that’s usually pretty chill and best thought of as a little time out from the weekend, which has already started. Then, at 5 p.m., you just slip right back into weekendness.

That looks like a delightful beer. I’m similar in beer snobbery (although toward Vermont beers, not Oregon beers). However, I’ve found that if I’m in a new place, I’m happy to try whatever the local brew is, figuring that I like the little Vermont beers a lot so other places must have decent ones, too. This is dangerous when in places like Munich where beer is revered and there are lots of them and the standard size is a liter.
I got one of those helpful emails from the “IRS” too. I think I accidentally deleted it instead of helping them steal my identity.
