I talk about the bus a lot. It’s just kind of where all the action seems to be these days. One day last week, I had a bus driver who I swear was the voice clone of the movie trailer guy. You know, that guy who says things like, “This summer… a civilization… will emerge… from the core of… THE EARTH.” His voice makes even the lamest plot lines sound fascinating.
This bus driver did the same thing. “Now approaching… the main hospital entrance… and the EMERGENCY ROOM.” He had that same guttural, action-packed voice. “Next stop… Southwest Third and…. WASHINGTON.” He clung to last word of every bus stop a little bit longer than the rest, letting it roll of his tongue slowly—as if getting off the bus was as interesting as a James Bond movie.
He also had this weird greeting thing going on. As the passengers streamed aboard and displayed their bus passes, he would thank them with alternating inflections: “Thank you. THANK you. Thank YOU. THANK YOU. Thank you. Thank YOU. Thank you. THANK you. Thank you!” I told a friend about it, and he said that that’s from a movie whose name is escaping me. Anyone? I’m pretty sure it’s a one-name title and it came out in the late 90s. That’s all I can tell you.
Gotta run. Neighborhood meeting. I’m taking minutes this time, which means I need to be alert.

I think the buscapades are entertaining enough that you may have book material. Especially since the powers that be in this country continuously want to eliminate mass transit to help their friends in the automotive and oil industries, these little snapshots showing unexpected delight and adventure take on additional merit.

What a fun bus driver. I’m sure he’s probably trying to make his job more exciting and the commute more interesting for people on the bus.
When I was in college there was a bus driver on a bus I frequently took who did things like that, too. I always got off on the second to last stop and he’d always announce the stop and then say, “our next stop will be the Michigan League where this fine motor coach will be out of service.” Sort of annoying first thing in the morning, but also sort of amusing.

hahaha.. that’s freakin hilarious! totally awesome!! I wish my bus driver was like that! You know, I bet your driver goes home at night and tries to think up new ways to make his days interesting.

That would definitely make the ride more interesting. I do like reading about your observations there too.
I have no idea about the movie though. Sorry!

I don’t get the experience of workable public transit where I live….I almost wish I did, it sounds like you have lots of interesting moments on the bus…hehe
