Have been working on putting together my neighborhood newspaper for T minus 14 hours…am zombie…can’t think…having flashbacks of missing the late bus when I was the copy editor for my high school’s paper…Chelsea has diarrhea…aren’t you glad you know that?…little known fact, the ellipsis is my least favorite grammatical device…it repulses me actually, unless used appropriately, which it hardly ever is, and certainly isn’t in this post…what can you do?…am zombie.
But, two pieces of good news:
1) We got a grant to put out the paper, so now, instead of having an $800 budget, we have a $4,000 budget and then some, plus ad revenue, which will (hopefully) cover all of our printing and mailing costs for the year. Pretty freaking awesome. Now if only I could somehow make a living doing this, considering it’s all I’ve had time to do for the last two weeks.
2) Speaking of making a living, I got a job! It’s not a writing job (boo) but it’s part-time and will allow me to continue freelancing (yay) while maintaining a positive balance in the ol’ checking account. And it sounds like it will be stressful enough to be interesting—if that makes any sense.
Whatever… am zombie. Goodnight.

“Hi, my name is ARboiWundr…and I’m an ellipsis addict!”
Yes, it is sad but true. I use the ellipsis incorrectly all of the time. I know that it is supposed to represent ommited information, but I’ve come to use it to represent trailing thought or a thoughtful pause. It is a little bit better than typing, uhhh, ummm, or other such verbal representations of thought. But, that isn’t a legitimate excuse!!
I’m currently on the ellipsis patch, and I’m slowly weening myself from its use. I’m proud to say that I’ve probably only used four times so far today!! It is an uphill climb, and I don’t think I’ll ever be cured from its usage entirely.

Congrats on the job! I’m glad to hear your mum is doing okay and sad to hear that your doggie has the squirts.
It’s been a while since I’ve been worked to zombie-dom, but I have a feeling its coming. Actually, its here but I just keep pretending its not.
I too hate the ellipsis, almost as much as a typed smiley face. But you are are excused.

I don’t mind the elipsis — it has its uses — but I’m real love is for the parenthetical dash.
And unfortunately I find the typed smiley face professionally indispensible. : )
What’s the job, Zombie MDIC? Did you leave it out because it’s something boring, or are you stringing us along because it’s something cool?
Sorry about the runny dog.

Hooray for the new job!
I also dislike the ellipsis. I’m ok with it if used sparingly, but I often find it to be used incorrectly and too frequently. Not to start a grammar rodeo here, but I personally dislike the exclamation point. I wonder what that says about me as a person.

Sweet on the bump in funding! That is great. Now, if someone would write a grant to get you paid for doing all that work!
But glad to hear you have a job now and I cannot wait to read about it should you choose to blog it.
You are doing it all. Good for you.

^^ Overused (especially multiplied!!!!!) exclamation points can drive me batty.
ryc: I think you’d enjoy The Show. On many days, it’s sort of like a condensed, zany version of The Daily Show. Except made by one guy and a camera. But it’s usually pretty funny and fairly intelligent.

congrats on the job, zombie! and the newspaper grant. keep on rockin’ sister. your comment on my last post made me laugh and laugh. i was thinking that you, squiddicino and i must be long lost somethings. i have no strong feelings toward ellipses…one way or the other.
