My mother and my friend Bev arrive tomorrow. Too much to do today. Must keep this short. Unfortunately, a last minute emergency is keeping Uncle Joe back in New Jersey, but he was able to transfer his ticket for use in another trip—eventually he’ll make it out here. Anyway, it’s picture time! Hooray.
BEFORE:

She looks high. She isn’t, she’s just old.
AFTER:

She got a haircut! This time, I gave up on trying to do it myself and got one of my neighbors—a professional dog groomer!—to shave it all off. She looks like she lost 10 pounds—and 10 years.

Chelsea hates being photographed and always looks away at the last second.

My neighbor’s dog, Bogey, is much more of a hambone.

Girdie thought my camera was food so she came running.

The nose was disappointed to learn that the camera was inedible. Girdie is currently in trouble with her owners for eating their daughter’s kindergarten classwork—an entire year of projects and pictures Ashley proudly brought home to show her parents only yesterday.

View from the floor of our storage room. (This, btw, is the room we were going to paint orange. We bought the paint, but as you can see, we haven’t bothered to paint it. Yet.) I present you with this photo merely to brag about my boyfriend‘s handiwork. See the kayak? Yeah, he built it. Out of canvas and wood. Isn’t that impressive?
A little more BEFORE and AFTER action. So, my landlady hires this landscaping company to come trim the bushes and hedges alongside our building. These guys show up at 8 am and begin mowing the lawn despite the fact that our landlady had mowed the lawn only two days earlier and it was already closely shaved. Miraculously, they spend three hours mowing our not-very-large courtyard until the landlady arrives and specifies “bushes” not “grass.” Well, she was referring to the overgrown hedges, but they heard “rose bushes.” Luckily, some of my neighbors have their rose bushes protected by garden fences:

Others were not so lucky:

Please note that this rose bush used to look like the pink one above. Can we say BUSHWACKED?! wtf?

Chelsea does look younger! The puppy comes out in her with shorter hair. And Girdie is intimidating. What a good job on the kayak. Has it been in the water yet? That’s one fun project. I’d brag too. But serious ouch on the the last before and after. I’m guessing the landlady isn’t too pleased by the communication gap. I don’t know roses very well, but I hope they weren’t trimmed so much that they do not come back next year. Bushwacked indeed!

chelsea is just the most loveable dog ever even if she does look away at the last second. that pig is a trip. hahahahaha. i am ultra impressed with asa’s handiwork. wow. nice kayak. i can’t believe anyone would do that to a rose bush! hello??
i hope you have a great time with your visitors. i hope your mother comments on how remarkably clean it is behind your fridge. and hey – if she says anything about the apartment, introduce her to the pig.

Chelsea looks fantastic. My Basset Hound, Penny, also always looks high although she’s not old, and she acts high all the time too, hey…….wait a minute! Anyhow, I think I love Girdie in spite of her horrific behavior. What is not to love about her oinkiness.
You must love having a significant other who, should the proverbial shit ever hit the fan on our big dirtball has all the skills necessary to be a Survivorman. I married one of those and it’s some serious peace of mind.
Have a wonderful visit with your mom & friend Bev

Chelsea looks so good with her haircut! The roses, unfortunatley, do not.

Yeah, hopefully I’ll be inspiring some form of picture time when the Summer Party July Edition comes together, because those always merit the most classic pics.

I didn’t realize you were in Portland. I’ll be travelling back over there tomorrow morning with my bro and hanging at his house in the NE section for a few days. I love Portland. I’m glad to get to spend a little time there. The last trip we took there was something like two and a half years ago. Al (my other half) loves it there as well, in particular because of the brewing culture.

Chelsea looks so sleek now! Girdie … er, less so.
Also: V. happy for the picture of the homemade kayak. Very nice!
I was watching an episode of Globe Trekker tonight where the host was going through the Pacific Northwest, including Portland. Included Voodoo Donuts, the Zoo Crashers and some beer festival in Angel Park. (Disclaimer: I may have butchered all of those names. Conferences always leave me short of sleep and brains.) But he frequently emphasized how eco-friendly your city is. Cool!

look there’s a pig… now im only commenting this because your exclamation marks are making me so… when i was younger on a farm i saw a little pig get raped by an older pig… it was one of those horrid things that never leaves you.

Holey shit! How did Asa learn to build a kiack! Shaun and I had a hard enough time trying to hang a few effing shleves on the wall–tools are scary. Way to go!

Considering the Denver edition of MDIC… we expect outrageously funny anecdotes on your Mom and Bev’s visit! Are they lesbians?

Your flowers…WTF?!?!? And the UnJoe emergency….its never ending. But hey, Chelsea looks good (and well groomed).

OMG, dont u just love getting their haircut? Does Chelsea’s grow back the same? Lucy’s DOES NOT, shes so old it only grows in patches…she looks TERRIBLE!!!! Its really embarrasing..had I known that, I may have never shaved her down…
I dont do grooming anymore, so I dont have the right clippers…it was really handy working at Petco…
They look like puppies with a haircut!!!

Chelsea’s hair turned out a lot better than mine.
Girdie cracks me up. Bring on more Girdie stories.
I am so impressed that Asa BUILT the kayak. Wow.
