My Dog is Chelsea

Where procrastination comes to flourish

The day The Stink became The Scent

February 20th, 2006 · 10 Comments

Chelsea smells.

I mean that as affectionately as possible. Her nickname, which in recent years has become her main moniker, is The Stink.

Frankly, I think Chelsea’s proud of her stench. Her ability to smell is one of the few senses she still has left—it’s probably how she still remembers where the rest of her body is.

The Stink stinks. It’s not a bad thing—once you get used to it—but it’s just a fact of life that a 12-year-old Springer Spaniel who eats twenty dollar bills and Alaskan hand sewn slippers is a smelly dog. That is, until I took her to the do-it-yourself dog wash AND put her pillow and blankets into the high-speed ultra-intense commercial washer at the laundromat.

The Stink doesn’t stink so much anymore. In fact, for almost 18 hours post-washing, she carried the smell of the hypo-allergenic shampoo I doused her in. For nearly a day, I ceased referring to Chelsea as The Stink. She became known as The Scent.

But rest assured, The Scent has almost completely faded. By tomorrow, no doubt, The Stink will be back in full effect. Asa thinks I’m making it up the pleasant odor altogether—”She doesn’t stink as badly as she usually does, but she still stinks!” he said—but every so often I can still catch a whiff of The Scent.

Or you could always have an icon updating the status of Chelsea in the Stink-Smell continuum. I wouldn’t recommend making that a scratch-and-sniff feature.

I’m sure my dog will have her day. SO far, so good. Now. THe day we came back from the lake, she smelled like fish. That’s b/c she was catching minnows and smearing her body all over them. :-p

I can only imagine how much fun a dog-o-mat must be.  I guess the question is – how does SHE feel about the scent?

Is this stink like old people stink?  The elderly have a particular scent – I may respect my elders, but I don’t respect the scent.  HehPositive Vibes!
