WTF? How did it suddenly become September? It’s the time of year to go back to school, but unfortunately, I don’t have a school to go back to. It’s sort of depressing, like babysitting on New Year’s Eve. Should I move? Go to Portland? Stay in Santa Fe but un-un-quit? I’m not ready to accept the fact that my life resets in January—it’s September, so something needs to happen. Any ideas? How are you all dealing with the changing of the leaves?
Wait… it’s fall?

Wake me up when September ends. No, seriously, since autumn is my favorite season I do enjoy being in a place that has the whole show. I imagine there’s a big difference between the autumns in New York you’re used to and autumn in Santa Fe. But Portland could be cool. And, wait, I thought you were taking my class online.

I know – pretty soon my little town will be inundated with leaf peepers and I’ll have to knock over all those idiots from Connecticut (no offense, Fred) who walk around eating ice cream cones and saying idiotic things like “oh my gawd, I can’t believe people live here year round!” Our only solace is November: the leaves have fallen and it isn’t time to ski yet.
I wonder what fall is like in Santa Fe? Probably pretty different than the east coast.

welcome to growing up. sucks ass doesn’t it. i didn’t like a fall without school so i went to grad school, this is my second since then. i’m applying to phd programs. if i become a prof it’s null, if i don’t, i’ll be miserable every fall for the rest of my fucking life. but that’s just me. some people adjust just fine!-Trisha

I’m doing ok with the change of pattern. Though I really miss summer break. :-/Portland… most definitely.

I’ve noticed that when you ask your readers where your life plan should take you you always say ‘should I move to Portland’? first which makes me think it’s what you really want to do. Why not move to Portland, it’s an amazing city and the people are so cool there. And you might not have to live in one of those Southwest scary apartment complexes either. I miss the fall too, fall in England is pretty pathetic compared to New England. I’m pretty sure it’s still summer though, so don’t panic yet!

I know what you mean. I feel like the summer’s almost gone and there’s so many things I meant to do, but never got to. I do love autumn though.

i love the fall, but september is actually my favorite month of summer. still warm days and cooler nights. less humidity. i always feel like i should make my new years resolutions at the start of every school year, in september, instead of waiting until new years eve. tomorrow we’ll go to the beach and next weekend, too. i think it’s a mind over matter thing.

I remember the stage you’re in. I moved to Boston to grow up. I really didn’t (grow up that is) for a few more years but it was more fun pretending at a job in Boston. From your previous post is sounds as if Portland could be a positive move for you. If it didn’t for some reason work out I’m sure NYC would love to have you back.

alas, there are no changing leaves in florida. fuck. this is the first autumn of my life where i can’t feel the cool winds of seasonal change forcing me to wear a sweater. i hope i don’t fall into a deep depression, pun intended. luckily i’m going far far north in a couple of weeks and i hope the long weekend and colored leaves will inspire me. i hear Portland is lovely.

I love fall! I live for change, though. I say: move. Try something new and go where your heart takes you. Unless your heart feels at home where it is, then stay. Or move back later once you know for sure.
