It’s my day off, so naturally I’m spending it in a coffeeshop. It’s a significantly hipper coffeeshop than my place of employment — it caters not to douchey tourists from Texas who don’t tip, but to the local alternative twenty-something crowd (i.e. people who are my age but are way cooler than I am). And don’t tell the health inspectors, but they let me take Chelsea in here.
But I came here with the intention of being productive, but as usual I will have to kiss any thought of productivity goodbye. You see, I have an exorbitantly long taped interview I conducted about two weeks ago for the newspaper that I still haven’t managed to transcribe, and today was going to be the day. Unfortunately, I got here, set up shop, ate a sandwich, drank a glass of mate*, and realized that I left my headphones at home.
So hey, you know how that age-old saying goes: “If you can’t transcribe an interview without irritating your fellow patrons, just blog.”
[*Nota bene: For those of you even unhipper than I am, yerba mate is a South American refreshment, similar to tea, but made with an herb that has a natural stimulant that may or may not actually just be caffeine (there's conflicting information about it circulating the Internet). Basically, you drink it and are wired for the whole day. You can find it in any hipster coffee shop across the country, or on the Internet. The stuff you can buy in Whole Foods is overpriced and not very good. In unrelated news, why is "Internet" capitalized?]

The question of capitalizing Internet came up today at work, actually. Or, more specifically, Web. According my brand spanking new AP Stylebook (which replaced one from 1988, before a large percentage of Xangans were born), Internet, World Wide Web and the standalone derivative Web are all considered proper nouns. Yes, you’re blogging on a proper noun. Internet, as well as Xanga. It doesn’t make much sense, true, but then I can say that applies to much of AP Style.

Hey you’re still productive. You’re providing something for us to read. Too bad you don’t get paid for this!

Get to work - slacker!
Did I tell you that I finished my freelance writing assignment? They really like the articles. Quote: “Judith took them to edit on the train and she got so absorbed in the articles, she forgot to take out a pen.”

I’ve always liked that saying - the old ones are the best and truest.

Yerba mate is yummy! I’m also digging Roobios tea lately. It’s red and delicious.

The only reason I know of yerba mate is from reading the biography of Che Guevara. And, of course, I read that instead of reading classroom material. God, I loved college.
